The Humane Society of the United States estimates that between 3 and 4 million dogs and cats are euthanized each year. These numbers are alarmingly high. We at Unchained New York urge you to considering adopting a rescue dog, rather than purchasing from a pet store or puppy mill. Rescue dogs are tremendously loving and loyal, and all too often, don’t get the chance that they deserve. By adopting a rescue dog, you will be saving the life of an animal, giving them the home they’ve desperately and helplessly been waiting for. You’d be surprised, that you will actually receive much more in return. The undying love of a rescue dog is immeasurable and never ending. Perhaps that is why we commonly hear the question “Who rescued who?”
The Adoption Process
Unchained New York is grateful for the opportunity to assist you in finding a dog who will be a part of your family for many years to come. In order to find the perfect fit for both you and the dog, you must first fill out an adoption application. Your application will be reviewed and your references checked. Once approved we will arrange a home visit with the dog to see the interaction between you and the dog. The final steps in the process will be to complete the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. “Unless there exists extenuating circumstances, UCNY requires that all current household cats and dogs be spayed/neutered prior to any adoption of a UCNY dog.”
Medical and Behavioral Evaluation
All dogs are examined by a veterinarian and given a formal behavior evaluation prior to being placed up for adoption. All dogs will be spayed or neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, heartworm tested, micro chipped and temperament tested.
Adoption fee is $300 for adult dogs and $350 for puppies. Adoption fees may be higher for pure breed and “tea cup” dogs. Special rates may be given for dogs with special needs.
The adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, deworming, age appropriate vaccinations and microchip. After 6 months of age, the adoption fee also includes a rabies vaccine, a heartworm test and heartworm preventative. We look forward to assisting you in finding your new best friend!
